Smoking during pregnancy?

My sister is pregnant. She’s 8 months along and has been struggling to quit since she found out. She’s cut down, quit, then started again and is having trouble quitting now. She doesn’t smoke like a pack a day or anything, but she does still smoke and it worries me! I love her and I know she loves her baby and feels bad about it, but how can I get her to quit for good? Would it even matter now since she’s already been smoking? What can it do to her baby? I mean, her ultrasounds and doctors say the baby is doing great and already weighs more than average. Should our family still worry? I know she is under stress right now and I don’t know if completely quitting would make things worse for her, but we just want the baby to be okay. Are there any health risks I can tell her about to help her stop smoking, or should the baby be okay since the doctors say so? She couldn’t be deformed when she’s born, could she?

Encourage her to quit but support her either way. A doc can prescribe her Welbutrin to help her with the cravings if that’s an issue. But your family should relax. I didn’t smoke with my first 2 and I did with my 3rd. He was my biggest and healthiest child…so you never know.
