Why is marijuana illegal?

In 1972, the National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse concluded that the dangers of smoking weed had been "grossly exaggerated." Following 30 years of research, the British medical journal, The Lancet states smoking cannabis "Even in the long term are not harmful to health. Marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana does not cause physical dependence or mental. The Drug Awareness Warning Network Annual Report, published by the U.S. federal government contains a statistical compilation of all drug-related deaths that occur in the United States. According to the report, there has never been any deaths to the use of marijuana by natural causes. No one knows the total number of deaths caused by the application of laws banning marijuana .. So why is it illegal? Because we havent done anything yet …

Because the government can not tax marijuana as they can on tobacco products and alcohol. If marijuana is legal then people will just grow instead of buying them in stores. They are therefore illegal.
